Ah, May Day. Beginning of Summer? Worker’s holiday? All of these things? Sure, and more. Come on down Friday and watch the Sabres move on to the next round, then the Derby runs Saturday, make sure you get your hat blocked. We will have Mint Juleps and Margaritas and Palomas available to help ease the pain of tearing up your OTB ticket. We will have our regular food menu this weekend, no food specials, as we have a few other things to take care of, but next weekend we will have late Cinco de Mayo specials (Ocho de Mayo?) to make up for it.

and laces droop
like the arms of a new-hire
waiting to punch out.
The shoe hangs open like the sigh
of someone too tired to speak
a mouth that can almost breathe.
A tear in the leather reveals
a shiny steel toe
a glimpse of the promise of safety
the promise of steel and the years to come.
