Specials for Weekend 7.29.22

Summer can make us reflective, as the heat forces a certain amount of (welcome) indolence upon us, and summers past start their chirping. But maybe we make too much of memory. Are we more than the things that we have done, that have happened to us? Surely, we are becoming all the time. Memory comes and goes of its own accord anyway, one waft of a hot dog burning on a grill and off down the rabbit hole, to childhood cookouts and playing in the sprinkler and beyond, often to places we would rather not venture, catastrophes we filed away.

“The notion that one will not survive a particular catastrophe is, in general terms, a comfort since it is equivalent to abolishing the catastrophe.” –Iris Murdoch
