Ah, Thursday. As it often does, Thursday puts us in a reflective state of mind, which the rain further enhances, and inevitably leads to Rilke’s Archaic Torso of Apollo, and that ache of a last line: You must change your life. We did, and do, and must keep changing, not only growing but cutting away dead branches, accepting new ideas, jettisoning those we no longer recognize. It’s often a frightening proposition, especially if one is fond of the way things are—but we cannot even know what it is we fear, since we cannot know what the next moment brings. Better to learn to dance, and then forget, and then learn again.
